St. Ann's
sponsors a variety of food and other collections throughout the year,
as follows:
Food Drives are held in September, November (Thanksgiving), February,
and on Palm Sunday. The collected food helps stock the shelves at St.
Michael's Parish; the Catholic Worker House; and the Avon Food Pantry
~ located and run right out of our church basement.
Tools for Schools Collection occurs in late August every year.
Backpacks, books and school supplies are collected for distribution through
our sister parish, St. Michael's; the Catholic Worker House; and Family
Life Center of Hartford.
December Christmas Gift Collection:
Parishioners donate gifts on the Christmas lists of young children from
St. Michael's; the Catholic Worker House; Family Life Center of Hartford;
St. Ann's Parish, Hartford; and the McDonough School 1st grade in Hartford.
Special Financial Collections:
Annually, the following charities receive funds generously donated to
the 'second collection' at weekend masses: Bolivian Mission Collection
for Rev. Michael Donahue; Avon Special Needs Collection; Haitian Health
Foundation Collection; Family Life Center Collection; and St. Michael's
of Hartford (3-4 Collections per year).
Lenten Corporal Works of Mercy:
Each Sunday during Lent, a special collection is taken corresponding to
one of the Corporal Works of Mercy (e.g. over-the-counter medications
for Haiti)
A Lenten Collection by the parish Faith Formation classes (grades K-6)
of new school shoes are sent to the children of Haiti, and distributed
by the Haitian Health Foundation.
A “Clothes Make the Man” men’s suit collection provides
suits for the needy to wear on job interviews and/or beginning a new job.
